What are the advantages of titanium alloy precision casting?

Titanium alloys have active chemical properties and require melting and pouring in a vacuum environment. Therefore, the traditional lost foam casting process cannot be directly applied to the production of titanium castings. The lost foam shell casting technology fully utilizes the advantages of lost foam casting and is combined with investment casting technology. After preparing the pattern, the oxide ceramic shell is prepared using its model and baked, and then vacuum casting is carried out to produce titanium castings. This can achieve precision and surface quality similar to that of titanium alloy investment casting.

Compared with machined graphite mold casting, titanium alloy precision casting can reduce the cost of machined graphite mold casting by more than 30%, while also providing surface quality and delivery time. The advantages of titanium alloy precision casting are:

① Flexible design, using an integral model shell to prepare castings, significantly improving the freedom of casting design. At the same time, through the combination of model trimming, highly complex titanium castings can be produced;

② The oxide ceramic shell has low thermal conductivity, good yielding performance, and a smooth surface inside the mold cavity, which can solve the quality bottleneck of flow marks, cold shuts, and cracks in graphite titanium castings, making the filling performance and surface roughness reach or close to the level of investment casting precision, and achieving the production of complex thin-walled castings below 4mm;

③ Without the need for a core, it can avoid the problem of uneven wall thickness caused by inaccurate positioning or misaligned fit of the machined graphite core, and has high dimensional accuracy;

④ The lost foam model is cheap and easy to process, which can significantly reduce the cost of titanium castings and shorten the production cycle

⑤ The production site is clean and free from graphite dust pollution, which can meet the requirements of clean production.

Compared with titanium alloy investment casting technology, the cost of the lost foam model is reduced by more than 80% compared to the photosensitive resin model. Moreover, when producing single or small batches of medium to large size castings, production can be achieved without investing in large wax injection machines and metal molds, and the cost delivery advantage is particularly prominent.
